To raise awareness about parliamentary democracy and encourage citizen involvement in the legislative process, the Georgian parliament is organizing a quiz for the students. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, Georgia has turned to Western-style democratic institutions.
According to CRRC-Georgia and NDI's December 2018 survey, half of the population thinks a western-style liberal democracy (53%) is most suitable for the country. To boost these pro-democracy sentiments the quiz 'What? Where? When?' will work to enlighten citizens.
The quiz on 2nd May will bring together over 100 students from 18 Georgian universities to support parliamentary democracy in Georgia. This initiative is supported by the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI).
Giorgi Mosidze, Member of the Parliament of Georgia will lead the event. Irina Pruidze, Chairperson of the Permanent Parliamentary Council on Open and transparent governance, and Giorgi Kldiashvili, Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI), will address the participants with welcome remarks.
The quiz will conclude with an award ceremony led by Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairperson of the parliament of Georgia; Louisa Vinton, Head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia; and Carlo Natale, Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia.
