Erdogan to visit Russia to discuss bilateral relations, especially Syria

The President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan is set to visit Russia to discuss the bilateral relations between the two countries, views on some regional and international issues especially Syria.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will pay a one-day working visit to the Russian Federation on August 27, 2019, according to the website of the Presidency of the Republic of Turkey.

As part of the visit, President Erdogan will meet with President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation, and the two leaders will co-chair the meetings between the delegations.

All the aspects of the bilateral relations between Turkey and Russia are planned to be discussed, and views on some regional and international issues, Syria in particular, are expected to be exchanged during the talks.

On the occasion of the visit, President Erdoğan will participate in the opening of the International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2019, one of the world's leading events in its field.

The announcement of the visit has come three days after the Presidents of both countries held a discussion over the phone during which they agreed to intensify joint efforts to eliminate the terrorist threat emanating from the Idlib de-escalation zone. They also agreed to ensure the implementation of the Sochi Memorandum of September 17, 2018.

During the telephone call, Putin and Erdogan discussed various aspects of Russian-Turkish cooperation in the context of stabilizing the Idlib de-escalation zone.

Taking into account the forthcoming fifth summit of the guarantor states of the Astana process due in September, they also considered other aspects of the Syrian peace process, including the work being done by Russia, Turkey, and Iran in cooperation with the United Nations to form and launch the Constitutional Committee.
