The COVID-19 tally in Ahmedabad district crossed the 33,000 mark and reached 33,037 on Wednesday with addition of 171 new cases, Gujarat health department said. The cumulative death toll rose to 1,760 with four new fatalities, it said.

With 121 patients being discharged after treatment in the day, the number of recoveries rose to 27,145 in the district, the department said. Of the 171 fresh cases, Ahmedabad city contributed 149 patients while 22 cases were reported from rural areas.

All four deaths occurred in the city. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to increase the services of city buses starting Thursday.

Buses will play between 6 am and 11 pm with50 per cent capacity, it said, adding that commuters will have to strictly follow the social distancing norms. As against 355 buses running on 77 routes during the lockdown period, the number of daily services will be increased to 650 covering 149 routes.

The number of buses to ply on the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) will increase to 205 from 125, it said. The civic body also informed that 31 of 1,694 passengers arrived in three express trains here have tested positive for coronavirus during screening.
