Safety of women, children top priority; stern actions taken against illegal mining: HP DGP

The Himachal Pradesh Police chief on Friday said the safety of women and children has been given a top priority and has also taken stern actions against illegal mining in the state.

Talking to reporters here, Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjay Kundu said the Himachal Pradesh Police’s topmost priority is the safety of women and children. At least 4,000 cases related to women and children have been solved in the last two years and have also caught the accused. The Himachal Police has taken strict action against illegal mining and drug trafficking in the state, he said.

As many as 2,156 challans have been issued to illegal miners across the state during the last five months, he said.

Against the capacity of 2,400 prisoners, 3,000 inmates are lodged in the state jails, of which 40 per cent are booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Kundu also mentioned that efforts taken to improve traffic systems and ensure compliance with the rules have led to a decrease in road accidents. At least 850 road accidents were reported from January 1 to May 19 this year as compared to 910 during the corresponding period in 2022.
