Australia Bans Vapes Outside Pharmacies Under New Restrictions

Australia is set to implement some of the world's toughest restrictions on electronic cigarettes, making it illegal to sell vapes outside pharmacies starting next week. This decision follows a compromise with the minor Greens party to pass the legislation. The law aims to restrict vape access while allowing adult smokers therapeutic options.

Australia plans to outlaw the sale of vapes outside pharmacies from next week under some of the world's toughest restrictions on electronic cigarettes, Health Minister Mark Butler announced on Monday.

The move follows a compromise with the minor Greens party, enabling the legislated restrictions to pass through the Senate. 'Our world-leading laws will return vapes and e-cigarettes to their original purpose—as therapeutic aids to help smokers quit,' Butler stated.

Starting Monday, it will be unlawful to supply, manufacture, import, or sell a vape outside a pharmacy in Australia. The ban targets all vapes, regardless of nicotine content, aiming to restrict their accessibility while maintaining adult access for therapeutic use.
