Dengue Cases Surge in Delhi as Testing Centers Increase

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has reported a significant rise in dengue cases this year, which they attribute to the increased number of testing centers. As of July 6, Delhi recorded over 256 dengue cases, which is nearly double the 136 cases noted in the corresponding period in 2023, and the highest since 2020, according to official data.

Najafgarh Zone has recorded the highest number of dengue cases, the report states. Despite the rise, no deaths have been reported so far this year, unlike the 19 fatalities recorded last year, the second-highest since 2020.

A senior civic body official explained that more testing centers, now grown from 36 to 900, have led to what appears to be inflated numbers. The monsoon season, yet to peak, is expected to exacerbate the situation as it provides an ideal environment for mosquito breeding.
