Nationwide Launch of U-WIN Portal for Routine Immunization Set for August End

The U-WIN portal, modeled after the Co-WIN Covid-19 vaccine management system, will be launched nationwide by the end of August. It aims to digitize vaccination records under the Universal Immunization Programme for pregnant women and children. The portal, which is currently in pilot mode, will help track immunization events, generate digital certificates, and ensure timely administration of vaccines.

The nationwide launch of the U-WIN portal, inspired by the Co-WIN Covid-19 vaccine management system, is anticipated by the end of August, according to official sources. The portal, currently in pilot mode, aims to maintain an electronic registry for routine immunizations.

U-WIN captures vaccination events for pregnant women and children under the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP). As announced by Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman in the interim Budget for 2024-2025, U-WIN will be rolled out nationwide alongside intensified efforts under Mission Indradhanush.

The U-WIN platform will ensure timely vaccine administration by digitally recording every vaccination event under the UIP for pregnant women and children aged 0-5 years. The initiative targets millions of beneficiaries, providing vaccines against various preventable diseases.

The platform generates QR-based, digitally verifiable e-vaccination certificates, accessible to citizens with a single click, thus eliminating the need for maintaining physical records. It will also facilitate digitization of session planning and real-time updating of vaccination status.

The portal addresses the lack of individual tracking and awareness about session locations and dates, particularly in urban areas. It aims to be the primary information source for immunization services, recording pregnancy details, newborn registration, and more.

By July 9, 2024, the pilot had registered 5.33 crore beneficiaries and recorded 18.15 crore vaccine doses. The platform aspires to reduce zero-dose and left-out children through a name-based tracking mechanism, benefiting particularly the migratory population.

Launching pan India by August end, U-WIN allows self-registration for vaccinations, appointment scheduling, and automated SMS alerts to ensure timely and appropriate vaccinations.

Additionally, it supports the creation of Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs and aids frontline workers in maintaining accurate vaccination records.
