External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has marked a milestone in India's health diplomacy by inaugurating the nation's first overseas Jan Aushadi Kendra in Mauritius. This landmark initiative underscores the robust healthcare cooperation between the two countries.
Jaishankar's visit, spanning from June 16 to 17, featured a series of significant events, including the joint inauguration of the Jan Aushadi Kendra with Mauritian Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth. This center aims to provide affordable generic medicines, in line with a promise from PM Narendra Modi.
Additionally, Jaishankar and Jugnauth opened a modern medical facility in Grand Bois, funded by an Indian grant. Describing it as an expression of the deep friendship between the nations, Jaishankar emphasized the facility's role in serving over 16,000 residents with secondary healthcare. The visit also saw the virtual inauguration of 12 India-assisted Community Development Projects, enhancing the India-Mauritius development cooperation.
