South superstar Nayanthara has faced criticism from hepatologist Cyriac Abby Phillips for her claims regarding the health benefits of hibiscus tea. Phillips accused her of spreading health misinformation, akin to previous allegations against actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu. Nayanthara deleted her post without issuing an apology.

South superstar Nayanthara has come under fire on social media after hepatologist Cyriac Abby Phillips criticized her claims about the health benefits of hibiscus tea. Phillips, known as The Liver Doc online, had previously called out actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu for promoting hydrogen peroxide nebulisation.

In a post she later deleted, Nayanthara praised hibiscus tea for its rich vitamin content and ability to protect against seasonal infections. Phillips countered her assertions, stating, 'If she had stopped at hibiscus tea is kind of tasty, that would have been ok. But no, they have to go ahead and blow their health-illiteracy trumpet.'

Although the actor deleted her post, Philips noted the lack of an apology, likening it to a 'surgical strike on public health.' He emphasized that laws are needed to hold celebrities accountable for spreading misinformation, while Nayanthara indirectly responded with a Mark Twain quote about arguing with 'stupid people.'
