A 12-year-old boy from Thrissur, named Ajsal, has made a remarkable recovery from a severe case of amoebic meningoencephalitis. Discharged from Amrita hospital on Monday, his journey back to health has been nothing short of miraculous.

Initially admitted to a primary health centre in Padoor for fever on June 1, Ajsal's condition rapidly deteriorated, necessitating multiple transfers to increasingly more specialized medical facilities. On June 16, after being moved to Amrita Hospital in critical condition, tests confirmed his infection with Vermamoeba vermiformis.

Thanks to intensive medical intervention, including ventilator support and a week of dedicated treatment, Ajsal began to show significant improvements. He regained mobility in his legs following a week of physiotherapy and was stable enough to be moved out of the ICU two weeks ago. Dr K P Vinayan, head of the Pediatric Neurology Department at Amrita Hospital, praised Ajsal's unexpectedly swift recovery and highlighted new state health guidelines on preventing and treating amoebic meningoencephalitis.
