A dead cockroach was allegedly found in the sambar served to guests at a five-star hotel in Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning, leading to the immediate sealing of the kitchen for 48 hours by local civic authorities, officials said.
The incident occurred during a function at the Hyatt Ahmedabad in the Vastrapur area, where a guest discovered the cockroach in his sambar, recorded a video, and filed a formal complaint, according to Bhavin Joshi, designated officer of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC)'s Food Department.
"A guest found a dead cockroach in the sambar and brought it to the hotel's attention. He made a video and lodged a complaint through our portal. Our inspection revealed that the 'Indian Kitchen' section of the hotel was unhygienic. Therefore, we immediately sealed the kitchen," said Joshi.
In a closure notice posted on the kitchen door, the AMC declared the cooking area closed for 48 hours for public health reasons. The notice also warned of legal action if the kitchen is reopened without proper authorization.
