Immunisation Coverage Soars in India with Lakshadweep, J&K Leading

The national full immunisation coverage for 2023-24 in India was 93.5%, with Lakshadweep and Jammu and Kashmir leading at over 108%. Despite some regions like Dadra and Nagar Haveli lagging, campaigns like Mission Indradhanush have played a crucial role in boosting immunisation rates.

The national full immunisation coverage for 2023-24 was reported at an impressive 93.5 percent, with Lakshadweep and Jammu and Kashmir topping the list, according to the Source Health Management Information System.

In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister of State for Health Prataprao Jadhav noted that Lakshadweep (108.79 percent) and Jammu and Kashmir (108.66 percent) were the frontrunners, followed closely by Telangana (106.13 percent), Delhi (105.03 percent), Andhra Pradesh (101.26 percent), Mizoram (101.10 percent), and Maharashtra (101.04 percent).

States like West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and other regions also exhibited commendable immunisation rates above 95 percent. However, the coverage was notably low in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, standing at 48.03 percent. Health ministry sources attributed the over-100 percent figures to initiatives such as Intensified Mission Indradhanush and increased immunisation of migrant populations.
