Experts at the 32nd Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indian National Association for the Study of the Liver (INASL-2024) cautioned the public against trusting social media recipes for liver detoxifiers. They emphasized the importance of adopting preventive lifestyle measures such as giving up alcohol, maintaining a healthy weight, and exercising regularly.
During the event in Kochi, Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan, chairman of Kerala State IMA Research Cell, stated that the liver is capable of self-cleansing and that detoxing through homemade recipes has no scientific validity. He stressed the significance of avoiding substances like alcohol that can damage the liver.
Health experts also noted the increasing prevalence of fatty liver disease due to alcohol consumption and unhealthy lifestyles, urging individuals to take early preventive actions. Dr. Mathew Philip, president of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology, inaugurated the session.
