A 21-year-old man exhibiting symptoms akin to the Chandipura virus infection passed away in an Indore hospital on Saturday, according to officials.

The Health Department stated that tests from the National Institute of Virology (NIV) confirmed the man was not infected with the Chandipura virus.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. B S Saitya noted that the man, initially admitted to a private hospital, had symptoms similar to Chandipura virus and was tested on August 10. The patient, a resident of Khargone, was transferred to Indore for improved treatment on August 6.

“The test report did not indicate a Chandipura virus infection,” the official said following the patient's death. Indore has not yet reported a confirmed case of the virus.

Chandipura virus causes fever and acute encephalitis and is transmitted through vectors like mosquitoes, ticks, and sandflies.
