In response to growing safety concerns for women doctors, Karnataka's Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, announced enhanced security measures across medical colleges, super-specialty hospitals, and hostels statewide. New measures include more streetlights, CCTV cameras, and trained security personnel.
The decision came post a significant meeting with officials and stakeholders at the Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute. The meeting focused on enhancing institutional security after a nationally publicized incident involving the rape and murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata.
'We are fully committed to ensuring the safety of women doctors. Feedback from today's meeting will be used to implement additional security measures, including better streetlights, CCTV surveillance, and trained security guards,' Patil declared. He also emphasized adherence to central guidelines and the Supreme Court, and noted the significance of internal complaints committees established under the PoSH Act for addressing grievances.
Patil warned against violence and sexual assault, assuring that the government would take stringent actions against offenders. 'We will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to protect our medical professionals, particularly women,' he stated.
