Tragedy Strikes: 28 Medics Killed in Lebanon Amid Escalating Conflict
In the past 24 hours, 28 on-duty medics were killed in Lebanon amid escalating conflict with Israeli forces. The crisis has further strained health services, with many health workers fleeing and a planned WHO shipment of medical supplies unable to reach the country due to flight restrictions.
The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 28 medics in Lebanon within the last 24 hours, as reported by the World Health Organization (WHO). This alarming news highlights the dire situation for healthcare services in the region.
According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, many health workers are abandoning their posts and fleeing bombardment zones. The absence of these professionals is critically impacting trauma management and the continuity of healthcare services.
The WHO's planned support, including a large shipment of trauma and medical supplies, has been delayed due to flight restrictions. Dr. Abdinasir Abubakar emphasized the severe toll the escalating conflict has taken, with hospitals evacuated and over 2,000 fatalities reported, straining the nation's healthcare capacity.
