A tense meeting between the West Bengal government and junior doctors is taking place at Swasthya Bhavan, the state health department's headquarters in Salt Lake. The discussion started later than scheduled, following a fast-unto-death protest demanding justice for a victim at RG Kar Hospital.

Despite a call for 8-10 representatives, over 20 doctors attended, underscoring the urgency of their demands. Present at the meeting were DG Rajeev Kumar and Home Secretary Nandini Chakraborty, alongside the protesting junior doctors.

The Junior Doctors' Forum, represented by Debasish Halder, insists on their key demands, including the dismissal of Health Secretary N S Nigam. They also highlight the need for a centralized referral system, a bed vacancy monitoring system, and essential workplace provisions. The protest followed the alleged murder of a postgraduate trainee in the RG Kar Medical College on August 9.
