Zambia's struggle against HIV/AIDS marks another milestone! Ndola City located in the country's Copperbelt Province has recorded a decrease in the number of people contracting HIV/AIDS to about six from 10 percent in previous years.
The city council has given the credit to the launch of the test and treat campaign in August 2017 by Zambia's President Edgar Lungu. According to a press statement issued to ZANIS in Ndola by NCC public relations manager Tilyenji Mwanza, the HIV contraction rate slowed due to Test and treat activities that enhanced the prevention of transmissions like Mother to child transmission (MTCT).
Tilyenji Mwanza further said that the local authority would like to encourage more people to know their status by ensuring that they get tested. She revealed that the district has since introduced a new ARV delutagravor which has improved viral suppression and fewer side effects, Lusaka Times noted.
She further revealed that the district is also seeking at new ventures that include the construction of Mushili Hospital and the upgrading of Chipulukusu Clinic, saying that Japan Cooperation Agency (JICA) has already been engaged to discuss the possible upgrades. On the other hand, the local authority is also happy to note that it has not recorded any Cholera case this rainy season.
