The Shimla district administration has launched an ambitious initiative to declare approximately 30 villages as 'Tobacco-Free.' This action, announced during a district-level meeting of the Tobacco Control Committee, aims to prohibit all forms of tobacco advertising within shop premises.

Under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap, a detailed plan was devised to implement the 'Tobacco-Free Youth Campaign 3.0.' The strategy involves forming village-level committees, including public representatives and an appointed 'Tobacco Ambassador,' to spearhead the tobacco-free movement.

To support this initiative, shops must adhere to strict tobacco control measures, such as prohibiting sales to minors, maintaining cleanliness, and cooperating with inspections. Non-compliance will result in permit cancellations. Additionally, anti-smoking signage is required to be displayed prominently outside stores.
