Chennai, 16th December 25: Addressing recent media scrutiny, the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) shed light on its stringent verification protocol for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs), designed to uphold patient safety and the integrity of medical qualifications.

TNMC's process involves thorough scrutiny of documents, covering everything from screening test certificates and passport details to embassy verification and validation of medical qualifications from respective universities. This meticulous approach has identified invalid certificates, ensuring only qualified practitioners enter the system.

While TNMC's mandate is confined to issuing provisional eligibility and registration certificates, the body adheres to the National Medical Commission's guidelines, particularly in cases affected by global events like COVID-19. Training and internship allocations remain outside its purview, handled by the Directorate of Medical Education under NMC's supervision.
