Kerala Finance Minister K N Balagopal has advocated for the increased adoption of menstrual cups as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional sanitary napkins. Addressing their long-term benefits, he emphasized their role in enhancing personal hygiene and enabling sustainable waste management solutions.
The minister announced this during the state-level inauguration of the Haritha Kerala Mission project, aimed at distributing menstrual cups and installing incinerators for sanitary waste disposal. He cited the significant attention the budget allocation for this initiative has garnered nationwide.
The launch, held at the Muttara Government Higher Secondary and Vocational Higher Secondary School in Kollam, was part of Kerala's commitment to its environment-friendly budget strategy. The event also included an awareness session on using menstrual cups and incinerator operations.
