A tragic incident unfolded at a north Kolkata hospital on Friday when a middle-aged man died after allegedly being trapped in a malfunctioning elevator, an official reported. The unfortunate event has raised concerns about the hospital's infrastructure and safety protocols.
The man, identified as a resident of the Dum Dum area, was at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital to seek treatment for his four-year-old son. Suddenly, the elevator, he and his wife were in, ceased operation, leaving them stuck. Tragically, the man, in his early 40s, was found bleeding from his nose when emergency personnel arrived.
The Deputy Mayor of Kolkata, Atin Ghosh, who is also the chairman of the hospital's patient welfare committee, acknowledged there may have been administrative lapses that led to the incident. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death, while police are set to proceed with appropriate legal measures.
