Authorities in Gurugram have uncovered an illicit operation led by Avi Sharma, who was producing counterfeit diabetes medication out of a local flat. Branded as 'Toneup,' these fake tirzepatide-based injections were manufactured using materials sourced from China, officials revealed.
According to Amandeep Chauhan, Gurugram’s Drug Control Officer, Sharma's operation was concentrated in Delhi's Bhagirath Palace market, though none of his products were purchased. Distinct differences in color and typography on the fake Mounjaro packaging uncovered the fraudulent activity, leading to Sharma's arrest.
Eli Lilly, the legitimate producer of Mounjaro, has expressed support for regulatory action against illicit drugs. The company, which launched Mounjaro in India targeting type 2 diabetes and obesity, emphasizes the importance of patient safety amidst these counterfeit concerns.
