Hantavirus Scare: Luxury Cruise Ship Quarantined Off West Africa

A luxury cruise ship off the coast of West Africa finds itself at the center of a health scare as medics work to evacuate passengers showing symptoms of hantavirus. With three confirmed deaths and several illnesses reported, the vessel's 150 passengers are currently in quarantine.

The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment confirmed the presence of hantavirus in one patient, heightening concerns among health officials. The virus, usually spread through airborne particles from rodent droppings, cannot efficiently transmit between humans, according to experts.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reassures the public that the risk remains low, discouraging panic. Meanwhile, authorities have denied the ship a docking berth in Cape Verde as a precaution. Efforts are underway to arrange for the return of affected crew members and the body of the deceased German national.
