Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Austria on Tuesday marked a historic occasion, being the first Indian premier to set foot in the country in 41 years.

The visit underscored the crucial role of tourism and cultural sectors, with both nations agreeing to boost tourist flows by expanding flight connectivity, according to an official release by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

This trip coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Austria and saw Modi engaging in pivotal meetings with Austrian leaders, including Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer.

Both leaders appreciated the existing cultural exchanges and noted a rising interest in Ayurvedic and yoga practices among Austrians. They also approved efforts to enhance bilateral cultural ties in arts, sports, and other fields under a recently signed MoU on Cultural Cooperation.

Emphasizing skill development and mobility of skilled personnel, the leaders lauded the operationalisation of the bilateral Migration and Mobility Agreement, which aims to facilitate such exchanges while tackling irregular migration.

Besides government-level engagements, Modi highlighted his meetings with business leaders from both nations, focusing on boosting commercial and trade linkages, and shared insights into these discussions through social media posts.
