The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG) engaged in a joint maritime exercise with Indian Navy forces in the Indian Ocean on July 12. This collaborative initiative aimed to enhance interoperability between the two countries' naval forces and reinforce their shared commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
Participating units included the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), Carrier Air Wing 11, and the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118). On the Indian side, the guided missile destroyer INS Visakhapatnam (D66) and replenishment ship INS Aditya (A59) took part. The Indian Navy, in an official statement, highlighted the importance of this Maritime Partnership Exercise with the US Naval Carrier Strike Group in the Arabian Sea.
The Indian Navy frequently collaborates with the US Navy in multilateral exercises spanning the Pacific, Southwest Asia, and littoral Africa. Moreover, the Indian Navy participates in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024 exercise in Hawaii, furthering leadership roles alongside the US Navy and other allies. This exercise coincided with the ongoing operations of the 7th Fleet, the US Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, which works closely with allies to uphold a free Indo-Pacific region.
Additionally, on April 6, Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a government enterprise, signed the Master Shipyard Repair Agreement (MSRA) with the US Navy. This agreement allows for the repair of US Naval vessels under Military Sealift Command at Cochin Shipyard. CSL was qualified for the MSRA following a rigorous evaluation and capability assessment process conducted by the US Navy's Military Sealift Command.
