Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh Killed in Tehran

Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and his bodyguard were killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran. The incident was confirmed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Haniyeh was in Iran for the swearing-in ceremony of the Iranian President-elect.

Ismail Haniyeh, chief of Hamas' Political Bureau, was killed in an attack in Tehran, according to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Press TV reported the incident occurred early Wednesday.

In a statement to Meher News Agency, the IRGC confirmed that Haniyeh and a bodyguard both died after their residence was targeted. The attack came after Haniyeh met with Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the previous day.

Khamenei shared photos of the meeting on social media platform X, while the Israel Defense Forces responded by highlighting the connection between Iranian leaders and terrorist organizations. Haniyeh, who is based in Qatar, was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in of Iran's President-elect, Masoud Pezeshkian.
