As Bangladesh grapples with escalating unrest following the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, SCBA President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon has appealed to India for the arrest of the former Prime Minister and her sister, Sheikh Rehana. This request was reported by Dhaka Tribune during a press conference at the SCBA auditorium, where Khokon emphasized that maintaining a positive relationship with India remains a priority. He stated, 'Please arrest Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, who fled the country, and send them back to Bangladesh.'

Khokon accused Hasina of being responsible for numerous deaths in the country, remarking, 'Sheikh Hasina has killed many people in Bangladesh.' Several pro-BNP lawyers attended the conference to lend support.

The SCBA President, also a joint secretary general of the BNP, voiced his opposition to declaring a state of emergency and urged Supreme Court judges involved in political activities and corruption to resign within a week. He called for the resignation of state law officers, including Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, and leaders and officials of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), appointed by the Hasina-led government.

Khokon also demanded the release of political prisoners amid the fluid political situation in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5, following widespread protests led primarily by students opposing the quota system for government jobs, which evolved into broader anti-government demonstrations.

Earlier, President Mohammed Shahabuddin announced the dissolution of the country's parliament to pave the way for forming an interim administration, as reported by Dhaka Tribune. In another significant development, BNP chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was also released. Hasina arrived in India on Monday evening, with her final destination still unclear.

Meanwhile, in Dhaka, leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have proposed that Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus head an interim government to address the nation's ongoing political challenges.
