Sadia Baloch, a prominent student leader at Punjab University, has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court challenging her suspension by the university administration, according to a report by the Dawn. The suspension notification labeled her as a 'miscreant student.'
Baloch, an LLB student, filed her petition through Advocate Asad Jamal, questioning the authority of PU Acting Vice-Chancellor Khalid Mahmood and head of Security Office, retired Col Ubaid Masood, to suspend students. The petition stated that only the disciplinary committee could exercise such powers and only after following due process.
The petition referenced the Punjab University Act, arguing that the security head's surveillance of students violates the Pakistani constitution. It also contended that the university’s notification of her suspension was issued without informing her, violating her constitutional rights to freedom of speech, association, and assembly.
Sadia Baloch is seeking a court declaration against the university's actions and a court order allowing her to sit for her annual exams starting August 22. The case is set to be heard on August 19 by Justice Shakil Ahmad.
