Liberian Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung landed in Delhi on Monday to attend the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that Koung's visit aims to reinforce bilateral ties with India.
Taking to X, Jaiswal tweeted, 'Warm welcome to VP Jeremiah Kpan Koung of Liberia as he arrives in New Delhi for the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave. An opportunity to further bolster India-Liberia partnership.' India-Liberia relations have always been amicable, with Liberia supporting India's UN candidatures. In May 2021, the Indian government established a resident mission in Monrovia, Liberia's capital.
The 19th edition of the CII India-Africa Business Conclave in New Delhi runs from August 20-22. The event underscores Africa's growth and India's role in global value chain integration. With a GDP of USD 3.7 trillion for FY24, India, the world's 5th largest economy, aims to strengthen its ties with Africa, a continent with vast potential and mutual respect.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, in June, highlighted Africa's rapid transformation and emerging future potential, noting India views Africa as a 'natural partner.' At the Africa Day celebrations, Jaishankar emphasized, 'Our bond with Africa is deep-rooted, and under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's engagement in Africa has been redefined.' He added, 'Africa, with its young demographics and vast resources, is a continent of rising ambitions, and India, the most populous country and 5th largest economy, sees it as a key partner.'
