India and US Kick Off 20th Yudh Abhyas Joint Military Exercise
India and the US commenced their 20th Yudh Abhyas joint military exercise at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. The 14-day event, running until September 22, involves 600 troops from both nations, focusing on counter-terrorism operations and enhancing military cooperation under UN guidelines.

India and the United States on Monday initiated the 20th edition of their joint military exercise, Yudh Abhyas, at the Foreign Training Node in Mahajan Field Firing Ranges, Rajasthan. This 14-day event will extend till September 22, with participation from around 600 troops from the RAJPUT Regiment and other Indian military branches. Representing the US, the 1-24 Battalion of the 11th Airborne Division from Alaska joined the exercise.
The primary aim of Yudh Abhyas is to enhance joint military capabilities for counterterrorism operations in a subconventional scenario, aligned with Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter. The exercise will include rehearsals of tactical drills, joint responses to terrorist actions, joint planning, and combined field training exercises to simulate real-world counter-terrorism missions.
According to the Ministry of Defence, the 20th edition of the India-USA Joint Military Exercise YUDH ABHYAS-2024 has shown a significant increase in scope and complexity regarding troop strength and equipment. This yearly exercise, alternating between the two nations since 2004, aims to develop interoperability and camaraderie between both armies. The exercise will further bolster defense cooperation and augment the bilateral relationship between India and the United States.
