Emmerson Mnangagwa now in Russia to meet Vladimir Putin & seek loans

Amid the economic crisis in Zimbabwe, the country’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has already visited Russia to meet his counterpart, Vladimir Putin.
Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa would meet Vladimir Putin with an urge for loans but he did not say how much his country wants to borrow. He also said Zimbabwe would like to see Russian companies explore for gas and oil. The two expected to centre deliberations on key economic deals as well as matters of mutual concern on the international arena.
Co-operation between Russia and Zimbabwe is currently defined within the context of a Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement and the Zimbabwe-Russia Joint Commission. According to The Herald, both the countries’ presidents want to ‘thrash out is advancement of the US$3 billion Darwendale platinum project, a joint mining and beneficiation venture.’
The visit to Russia is the first stop in President Mnangagwa’s four-nation tour of Eurasia, after which he will head to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum.
