The recent AI Action Summit in Paris put a spotlight on the necessity to nurture a diverse and inclusive artificial intelligence ecosystem, stressing the importance of a human-centric, rights-based, and ethical approach. The summit focused on ensuring AI safety and security while addressing pressing inequalities and bolstering capacity-building efforts in developing nations.

In total, 58 countries, alongside the European and African Unions, endorsed the joint statement issued after the summit, which was co-chaired by India and France. Intriguingly, the United States and the United Kingdom abstained from signing the agreement. The statement titled 'Inclusive and Sustainable Artificial Intelligence for People and the Planet' emphasized the need for AI to remain ethical, trustworthy, and accessible, advocating for a diverse AI ecosystem to help develop capabilities in lesser-equipped countries.

The summit acknowledged progress at multilateral levels, recognizing initiatives like the United Nations General Assembly Resolutions, UNESCO's ethical AI recommendations, and strategies formulated by entities such as the African Union, G7, and G20. The document set forth priorities to ensure AI accessibility, foster ethical AI development, drive sustainable innovation, and encourage global cooperation for better governance.
