In a significant development, Israel's Defense Ministry has accelerated the 'Northern Shield' project, aiming to construct 1,240 protective shelters across 17 communities bordering the northern region. This initiative comes as a defensive measure to enhance civilian safety amidst growing regional tensions.
Eight contracting companies have been enlisted for the project, with plans to extend the construction efforts to additional areas starting next month. The expanded project highlights the urgency and commitment to strengthening the security framework along Israel's northern frontier.
Deputy Director General Erez Cohen of the Defense Ministry disclosed a substantial budget allocation of 1.2 billion NIS (approximately USD 330 million) set for April, underscoring the government's strategic investment in border security infrastructure.
