The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to unveil a white paper scrutinizing the Punjab government's performance under Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in its initial year. Leader of the Opposition in Punjab, Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, alleged at a Lahore press conference that public funds were misappropriated for self-promotion efforts.
Bhachar refrained from naming Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz but accused the administration of redirecting state resources to bolster her image alongside former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The PTI intends to legally challenge the government's expenditure on personal publicity, arguing it violates a Supreme Court mandate. Bhachar condemned the PML-N's focus on political persecution over governance, claiming indiscriminate raids against PTI affiliates.
Expressing concern over authoritarian practices, Bhachar recounted alleged raids on PTI properties. He criticized the refusal to allow PTI's chief minister nominee, Mian Aslam Iqbal, to take oath despite court orders. The opposition leader called for remote oath arrangements. Economic challenges, including a thriving textile sector under PTI's tenure, were also discussed. Dialogue prospects with the government have floundered, leading PTI to refuse further talks, citing unmet demands and collapsing negotiations.
