The maiden port call of the Indian Naval Ship Imphal at Port Louis, Mauritius on March 10, 2025, paves the way for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's impending visit. This strategic deployment sees INS Imphal actively participating in Mauritius' 57th National Day celebrations on March 12.

The visit aligns with the tradition of Indian naval presence at Mauritius' National Day events, reflected in a statement by the Ministry of Defence. INS Imphal will enhance the parade with a marching contingent, naval band, and an aerial display featuring its helicopter, where Prime Minister Modi is expected to take center stage as the Chief Guest.

During its stay from March 10 to 14, INS Imphal will engage in various training and cultural exchanges aimed at bolstering bilateral relationships and maritime security cooperation. Activities will include cross-training opportunities, friendly sports matches, and community outreach. A joint EEZ surveillance exercise with MCGS ships is among the scheduled highlights.

These endeavors reflect India's 'Neighborhood First' policy, and the SAGAR (Security And Growth for All in the Region) vision, advocated by Prime Minister Modi during his visit a decade ago. The deployment underscores India's commitment to a stable Indian Ocean Region, fostering historical and cultural ties with Mauritius, highlighted through the strategic deployment of Project 15B Visakhapatnam-class destroyer, INS Imphal, a testament to India's advanced maritime capabilities.
