Reports: Bulls F Hutchison fractures toe, out at least two weeks

The Chicago Bulls' Chandler Hutchison posted the best NBA numbers of his career Friday night, but any high was short lived as the rookie forward suffered a right toe injury that could sideline him for an extended period, multiple news outlets reported Saturday. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi reported Hutchison will be re-evaluated after two weeks.

The 6-foot-7 Hutchison had 12 points and 12 rebounds for his first double-double in Friday's loss to the Clippers. He notched 41 minutes of playing time, including the entire fourth quarter. The 22-year-old had an MRI exam Saturday morning after X-rays taken late Friday raised concern about the injury, according to the Chicago Tribune.

"It's obviously disappointing," coach Jim Boylen said of Hutchison. "He's playing at a high level and seems to be figuring it out." Guard Zach LaVine and forward Lauri Markkanen also sat out Saturday's practice. Boylen told reporters that LaVine woke up with swelling and soreness in left ankle and Markkanen's hip was "very sore." LaVine has missed five games already this season after tweaking his ankle Dec. 13 against the Orlando Magic in Mexico City.

The injuries left Boylen with only eight players able to practice Saturday. "It's gut-wrenching," said Boylen regarding the team's rash of injuries, which also include season-ending surgeries for Wendell Carter Jr. (left thumb) and Denzel Valentine (left ankle). "It's painful for them individually and painful for the team. It's tough."

Hutchison, the No. 22 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft out of Boise State, has averaged 5.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 44 games. --Field Level Media
