The 20th anniversary of the East Asia Summit underscored member nations' dedication to multilateralism, reinforcing strategic talks on global issues. During the landmark 20th East Asia Summit, member countries came together in reaffirming their unwavering commitment to multilateralism. This approach is deeply rooted in international law, notably the Charter of the United Nations, described as the 'indispensable foundation' for fostering a more peaceful and prosperous global community. The Kuala Lumpur declaration, as disclosed by the Ministry of External Affairs, highlighted several strategic measures to reinforce the Summit's impact, ensuring the continuation of its informal nature to facilitate open discussions among leaders on pressing strategic, political and economic issues.
