Alpine skiing-Vonn crashes heavily in Super-G

American Lindsey Vonn crashed heavily in the Super-G at the Alpine Ski world championships on Tuesday in the penultimate race of her glittering career, though she appeared to avoid injury.

Vonn seemed to lose control coming off a jump early in her run and careered into the safety netting.

The 34-year-old, who has suffered many knee injuries, was helped back to her feet by a group of race officials and a few minutes later she skied slowly down to the finish line. (Reporting by Martyn Herman; Editing by Hugh Lawson)
