Indian workers don’t need any work permit, clarifies Nepal

Kathmandu [Nepal], Feb 6 (ANI): The government of Nepal on Wednesday said that Indian people would not require any work permits to work in the landlocked South Asian nation.

Refuting the media reports which stated that Indian workers in Nepal would require work permits, Nepal said that no such decision has been taken and a probe has been initiated to ascertain the source of the information.

"Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security's attention has been drawn towards the reports by the media claiming Indian workers would require a work permit to work in Nepal," Ram Prasad Ghimire, Joint Secretary in the ministry, said on his Facebook account.

"The Ministry has never taken such steps. An inquiry would be launched and the truth will be revealed," Ghimire said.

He said that those who spread the rumours about the requirement of the work permit for the Indian nationals would be brought to book.

Ghimire said that the authenticity of letter would be examined and those involved in this would be traced. "The truth will be put forward," he said, requesting the public to not believe in such unauthenticated reports.

The purported letter, released on January 24, bears the signature of the Ministry's Factory Inspector Prashanta Shah, who directed all labour offices to make sure about the issuance of work permit for every Indian national working in Nepal.

In the letter, Shah has stated that his directive is in accordance with the instructions received from the Prime Minister's office and the Council of Ministers. (ANI)
