Predators acquire veteran C Boyle from Devils

The Nashville Predators added a veteran presence as well as playoff experience Wednesday by acquiring center Brian Boyle in a trade with the New Jersey Devils. The Devils received a second-round draft pick in the upcoming June draft as they look toward the future during a difficult season that has left them with 47 points, second worst in the entire NHL heading into play Wednesday.

New Jersey is coming off a 5-1 defeat at home Tuesday to the Western Conference-worst Los Angeles Kings. Boyle, 34, has scored 13 goals with 19 points for the Devils this season. His goals total is tied for third most in a season in his career.

The cancer survivor, who is in his 12th NHL season, played in the Stanley Cup Final with both the New York Rangers in 2014 and the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2015. He has seen action in 111 career playoff games, delivering 28 points. Boyle is a former 26th overall selection in the 2003 NHL draft by the Los Angeles Kings. He has 119 career goals and 211 points over 740 regular-season NHL games with the Kings, Rangers, Lightning, Toronto Maple Leafs and Devils.
