In a high-profile case reflecting China's ongoing anti-corruption efforts, Bai Tianhui, the former general manager of China Huarong International Holdings, was executed on Tuesday, per a report from Xinhua News Agency. The execution was sanctioned by the Supreme People's Court and carried out in Tianjin Municipality.
The Tianjin No.2 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Bai to death in May 2024 after his conviction for accepting bribes. Despite appealing the decision, the Tianjin High People's Court upheld the original verdict in February 2025, and the case was ratified by the Supreme People's Court, according to statements from Global Times.
Bai's misdeeds, spanning from 2014 to 2018, were deemed exceptionally severe, involving over 1.108 billion yuan. He exploited his executive roles within Huarong International for personal gain, resulting in substantial damage to state interests. This extensive financial misconduct underscored the need for severe legal repercussions, highlighted by the decisive court ruling.
