Jaishankar Highlights India's Strategic Concerns Amid West Asia Turmoil

In a critical gathering at the parliament, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan strategized on the growing turmoil in West Asia. Speaking earlier in the Rajya Sabha, Jaishankar revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing the evolving conflict.

Jaishankar updated the House on the measures taken for Indians in West Asia, confirming that formal advisories have been issued. He emphasized the government's primary concern is citizen safety. Coordination among ministries is ensuring effective crisis response as the Prime Minister monitors developments closely.

The Minister assured that communication lines remain open with Indians in the Gulf as the Indian Embassy in Tehran facilitates aid for students. Efforts are active in supporting stranded Indians, particularly in Qatar and Jordan, with relocations already underway to safer zones.

Highlighting the grim maritime scenario, Jaishankar shared the loss of two Indian mariners, shedding light on the conflict's broader impact. The Union Minister labeled the instability as critical to India, given the Gulf's vital energy supplies and the significant Indian expatriate presence.

He warned of severe supply chain disruptions, stressing the deteriorating regional security environment. The conflicts' expansion and its impact on everyday life necessitate dialogue and diplomacy as paths to de-escalation, reflecting India's stance conveyed through a February statement urging restraint.
