India Backs Safe Global Maritime Passage Amid West Asia Tensions

Amid escalating conflict in West Asia, India reiterates its commitment to maintaining secure and open maritime routes. PM Modi has engaged with world leaders, emphasizing dialogue and secure routes, particularly around the strategic Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global trade and energy passage.

India has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation through crucial international maritime routes, with particular attention to the Strait of Hormuz, as tensions escalate in West Asia. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted India's stance at a recent briefing on Friday.

Responding to media inquiries, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal articulated India's consistent position on maintaining open and secure shipping channels globally, vital for trade and energy supply chains. He noted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ongoing discussions with numerous world leaders on these pressing matters.

Highlighting the Persian Gulf's strategic significance due to its role in global energy distribution, Jaiswal emphasized India's operational presence with 22 ships in the area. Prime Minister Modi's recent dialogues with leaders from Oman, Malaysia, France, Jordan, and Qatar addressed the regional turmoil and underscored the urgent need for dialogue, security of maritime routes, and safeguarding energy infrastructure.
