Senators trade Dzingel to Blue Jackets for Duclair, picks

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired left winger Ryan Dzingel from the Ottawa Senators on Saturday evening in exchange for left winger Anthony Duclair and second-round picks in 2020 and 2021. The Blue Jackets also received a seventh-rounder. The two teams played each other on Friday, with Duclair tallying two assists in a 3-0 Blue Jackets victory.

Dzingel, who turns 27 on March 9, is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer as he finishes the final year of a two-year, $3.6 million deal. Dzingel has 22 goals and 22 assists in 57 games this season, needing two more goals to set career highs in both marks. A seventh-round pick by Ottawa in 2011, he has 126 points (62 goals, 64 assists) in 247 career games through four NHL seasons.

Duclair, 23, has 11 goals and eight assists in 52 games this season. He'll be heading to his fifth NHL team, after one year with the Rangers, two-plus with the Coyotes and part of one with the Blackhawks before signing with the Blue Jackets last summer. Jackets head coach John Tortorella scratched Duclair from the lineup Monday, saying "bad listening skills" were a factor. That was the beginning of extensively critical comments from the coach.

"I don't think he knows how to play. I don't," Tortorella continued. "...I just think he thinks he can go do whatever the hell he wants on the ice. He can't do it in the National Hockey League. "...I don't know if he just can't comprehend it or if he's just stubborn. But he's running out of time."
