Spanish government housing decree sunk in congressional vote

The Spanish ‌government has lost a critical vote in ‌Congress on its plans to tackle a housing crisis that ‌has sparked public ‌protests that intensified last month following the eviction of an 87-year-old woman.

The vote was rejected by 178 votes in the 350-seat lower house of parliament, after the government's erstwhile ally, right-wing Catalan separatist party Junts said the measures would ultimately tighten the housing market.
