Celebrating 50 years of Moon Landing! Michael Collins narrates Apollo 11-voyage in a video
It's the 50th anniversary of Moon landing! Google celebrates this milestone with a beautiful doodle to honor the masterminds behind the success of Apollo 11 that first landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969. That remarkable moment was of unity and strength, and the world became smaller with that success in mission as humans were able to touch a piece of land beyond our planet Earth for the first time.
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first two humans to land on the Moon while Michael Collins stayed in orbit around the Earth's permanent natural satellite. Google's team collaborated with Nasa and Michael Collins in the making of an animated video in which Michael Collins introduces himself and narrates the sequence of events from his memory. The video is absolutely fun and entertaining to watch and know what happened 50 years ago when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made a successful Moon landing by Apollo 11 while the current orator was piloting the command module. He is one of 24 people to have flown to the Moon, which he orbited 30 times.
Approximately one million spectators watched the launch of Apollo 11 on July 16, 1969 from the beaches and highways close to the launch site, Kennedy Space Center with many dignitaries including the 36th president of the United States, Lyndon Baines Johnson and his wife Lady Bird Johnson. Around 3,500 media representatives were also present and the launch was televised in 33 countries and millions around the world got the updates through radio broadcasts. Tuesday night at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida was filled with 300 shooting star drones (using LED lights) to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.
The journey to Moon landing was commenced when Saturn V rocket launched Apollo 11 from the Kennedy Space Center. Albeit, none of the crew members suffered from space sickness, still Neil Armstrong's heart rate increased to 110 beats per minute out of his extreme excitement to bag a lifetime experience.
The objective of Apollo 11 was to have a safe Moon landing instead of touching down at a precise location. Neil Armstrong became the first human to land on the Moon as about 19 minutes after his first step, Buzz Aldrin joined him on the surface becoming the second human to walk on the Moon. Watch the video below to get a short description on their voyage on the Moon 50 years back.
