Eurostar warned passengers on Friday not to travel on its cross-Channel rail services to and from Paris unless it was essential after a power failure at the Gare du Nord station in the French capital. "Traffic to and from Paris is severely disrupted," Eurostar said in a statement.

A Eurostar spokesman told Reuters there had been a power cable issue on one of the Gare du Nord's platforms. It was not immediately clear what caused the failure, the spokesman said. Eurostar service was also suffering into Brussels due to speed restrictions imposed as a result of this week's heatwave.
