The requirement of sustainable development and its intense practices have become one of the top priorities across the world, particularly in Africa, the continent which is having a notable demographic growth. The sustaining ability of natural systems to ensure the protection of natural resources and ecosystem services is absolutely necessary this time, without which the future of present human civilization is not definite.

The Forum on Sustainable Cities and Towns in Africa took place on May 14 to make the preparation for Africa-France Summit, which is slated to take place between June 4 and 6, 2020 in Bordeaux, port city in Southwestern France. The current President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron had already placed his invitation to his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari to attend the Africa-France Summit 2020.

France is committed, as stated by Emmanuel Macron in Ouagadougou in November 2017, is committed to contributing to the invention of the sustainable city for future in Africa. This was announced to be the theme of the next Africa-France Summit scheduled for June 2020. The discussion will be mainly about environmental and economic challenges including the introduction of issues of sustainable growth and good governance at the meeting.

The Secretary General of the Africa-France Summit, Stéphanie Rivoal expressed her intention to witness for an inclusive summit, which would above all become the 'African solutions', as reported by Afrik21. She even also welcomed the suggestion of Ivory Coast's City Minister, Albert Amichia to organize one or two preparatory meetings in Africa for the summit.

"A particular peak because of its novelty in terms of its content. Beyond the diplomatic and political dimension that will be organized around the heads of state and government, the Bordeaux summit is a summit that we have called a solution; concrete solutions to see how French companies, NGOs, women, youth, associations, all stakeholders of a city offer facilities for Sustainable African Cities," clarifies Assistant Mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Gaétan Njikam.

The Africa-France Summit 2020 is going to be inclusive as the opportunities what France and Africa can offer sustainable cities tomorrow will be discussed. The heads of states, heads of governments, NGOs, financial partners, social civil actors and several associations are expected to be present at the meeting, noted JournalduCameroun.

UCLG signed an agreement with the 'Sustainable Cities' task force of Medef International keeping in view of the Africa-France Summit 2020 whose target is to cooperate and develop the sustainable urban solutions proposed to the African communities through technical and financial support from local authorities on the continent. They will work on multiple sectors like energy supply and energy efficiency, long-term planning and urban renewal, water and sanitation networks, waste treatment and recovery, sustainable construction, connectivity and smart cities to cite a few.
