Georgia blames Russia for cyber attack on its websites last October

Georgia said on Thursday that a massive coordinated cyberattack that took thousands of websites offline last October was planned and carried out by Russia. "The investigation conducted by the Georgian authorities, together with information gathered through cooperation with partners, concluded that this cyber-attack was planned and carried out by the main division of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation," Vladimer Konstantinidi, the foreign ministry spokesman, told a briefing.

Thousands of state, private and media websites were knocked out. The attack targeted websites including those of the president's office, local municipality offices, and two private television stations. The Russian Defence Ministry did not immediately reply to a request for comment
